Choir plays it safe
The choir of Uppingham Parish Church returned to their choir stalls recently, safe in the knowledge that they were Covid free.
Before every Sunday service all the members take a lateral flow test. Only if they prove negative, do they come to St Peter and St Paul’s church to sing.
“Not being able to singing together as a choir has been one of the hardest restrictions of the past sixteen months,” says John Wardle, Director of Music at the church. “Now it’s again possible we wanted to take every precaution to keep ourselves and other members of the congregation safe,” he said.
Deputy churchwarden Richard Cole agrees. “Some of our congregation have been shielding for a long time. Returning to worship in church is very important. We are continuing to do all we can to ensure that everyone coming to church feels safe to do so,” he says. “The choir’s proactive actions gives everyone confidence.”
