The joy of witnessing an adult or child being baptized is truly sacred and a time of celebration and thanksgiving for the gift of life.
A Baptism (or Christening) is a special moment for Christians of all ages as the church welcomes a new member, it reminds us of what it means to be a child of God.
Baptisms are wonderful celebrations for families and communities; this practice reflects the essence of spiritual growth with those being baptized receiving support from the community around them.
In the service, parents and godparents make a decision for their child to start a journey of faith and we, at St Peter & St Paul Uppingham, would be delighted to be part of this journey with you.
A Baptism is a holy sacrament using water to wash away sin, typically in font, where a person makes a public commitment to be a follower of Jesus Christ; a Christening is a naming ceremony with the baptism where the parents promise to raise their child in faith. (Our font is medievil linking your baptism to generations over hundreds of years in the Town's history).
Typically, baptisms are included in our Sunday service, although this is not a requirement.
If you are considering a Baptism, and live in the parish of have existing connections with our church the first step would be to meet with our Rector for a chat to discuss what is right for you and to begin the process.
There is no charge for a Baptism or Christening.
