We were delighted to welcome The Venerable John Ellis to lead our service for Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent, the 40 days of self-denial and spiritual reflection leading to Easter.
It is traditional at this service for the priest to apply ashes in the shape of the cross to the forehead of those attending (the ashes are made from burned palms from the previous Palm Sunday). For Christians this is an outward sign of an inward commitment to turn towards God.
