Our choir led the service of Tenebrae, traditionally sung during the Great Triduum (the three days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday) to bring Holy week to a close.
Taken from the Lamentation of Jeremiah, it is accompanied by the gradual extinguishing of 15 candles to end in darkness reflecting the desolation felt by the disciples after the Crucifixion.
Tenebrae takes its name from the Latin for "shadows".
Thank you to our musical director, John Wardle, and our choir for the singing and Rev Stephen Bishop, Chaplain of Uppingham School, and Jill Cannings for the readings.

You can hear some of the service on our Instagram feed @uppinghamparishchurch
